Defining the exact position
Imagine yourself on a walk somewhere through a forest and just consider for a moment how – after a potential accident – you would describe to the rescue coordination center where they can find you. This might prove to be very difficult. However, by carrying a suitable mobile phone with you, the GPS coordinates sent will make sure that your position can be exactly located.

Linguistic barriers
And again another setting: After an accident during a stay in Southern Italy, it might turn out to be rather difficult to communicate to the local rescue coordination center what happened and where you are at the very moment, particularly if your knowledge of the Italian language is limited to some Italian words….

The solution
By downloading the SOS-Call app to your smartphone, you can make sure that your exact location data will be sent to our Alarm Center in Germany once the SOS-Call on your smartphone has been activated.
We then will make sure that the collected information on the emergency case together with a map indicating your location are quickly forwarded to our partner’s control center in the foreign country, who, in turn, will immediately activate the local emergency services in the local language. This guarantees that first aid will reach you within the shortest possible time.
To cover for the medical costs of this service, a travel health insurance will have to be taken out.

Performance specifications

med con team’s emergency response center (Alarm Center) – continuously manned around the clock – is always available and

ready for action – on workdays, Sundays and on public holidays.

The caller’s or the mobile phone user’s emergency calls will immediately be forwarded by med con team to the local rescue coordination center, taking into account the customer’s master data.

  • Incoming emergency calls as well as the subsequently initiated measures are documented in detail. Special emphasis is placed on the recording of the emergency calls and the transfer measures.
  • The location data received by SMS or via data transfer upon activation of the emergency call function is transferred, if the data could be technically collected and are available with med con team.

Blackberry App

At this point in time, the Blackberry app enables the transmission of your position data to our German Alarm Center. With a pre- programmed speed dial key, this can be done by pressing the key a second time.

A description of the app can be found at Arealcontrol. In case of a mere „SOS-Call.eu “, the tracking function is deactivated.

Satellite Phone

In regions where no wireless reception is possible, satellite telephones may be used. The service behind the “SOS-Call.eu” works the same way as when using the app.

Satellite telephones allow transmission of your position data to our German Alarm Center. By means of a pre-programmed speed dial key or, for example, by the separate emergency call key of the Iridium phone illustrated, the necessary data are transferred to our Alarm Center and you can make a call.

FAQ

1. Which advantages does the SOS-Call offer?

We are the first provider to support you on a worldwide scale in making emergency calls and getting the help you need as quick as possible. Even when meeting with language problems or if you are unfamiliar with the place – our partner network will forward your exact position to the local rescue coordination center. In 30% of all emergency calls, a significant speed-up of the emergency services’ response time is thus ensured.

2. Do I need to take out a travel health insurance?

The answer is yes. The reason is that when travelling abroad your health insurance cover is often limited. That is why we ask you about your health insurance cover.

3. Does the data roaming function has to be switched on when abroad?

To send both an SMS message and an e-mail including the local information you get from the map from abroad to our German Alarm Center, you ought to have the data roaming function enabled for at least a short time. The app, however, also will send your coordinates via SMS even when the data roaming function is disabled, but you cannot see the map in the app. As soon as you do not need data roaming any more, please make sure to switch it off.

4. How can I determine whether the data are correctly transferred in the „SOS-call.eu “?

The Alarm Center dispatcher gets the data within one minute after the alarm has been activated, and a voice communication is set up in response to your emergency call at the same time. The dispatcher will then confirm having received your localization data.

5. Where can I find a suitable app with automatic tracking for the ‘Security Sector’?

There are situations in which it is crucial to continually trace a person’s location. This is often of vital importance for the ‘Security Sector’ (Security). For this purpose, special apps with a server support have been developed complying with any necessary safety regulations.

6. Does the WLAN function have to be switched on?

The answer is yes. The reason is that localization by WLAN inside buildings is almost as precise as localization by GPS outdoors.

7. Can I make use of Geofencing?

Arealcontrol’s server as well as servers from other providers allow to relocate virtual fences around certain areas.  An alert will be sent out to the Alarm Center as soon as the virtual threshold is exceeded (e.g. when used for patients suffering from dementia).
